I’m Building A Real-time Smart Home Monitoring System — Looking For Honest Feedback

I’m currently working on a smart home monitoring project that lets users check the status of things inside their home directly from their phone.

The idea is simple: open the app and see things like:

* ???? Lights — ON/OFF * ???? Fans — ON/OFF * ???? TV and appliances — current status * ???? Doors — OPEN/CLOSED * ???? Windows — OPEN/CLOSED * ???? Alerts if something important is left open or running

My main goal is to make this **actually work in real time with real hardware**, rather than building another fake dashboard with hardcoded data.

I’m currently exploring the best way to handle the hardware → backend → mobile/web app communication and would love some advice from people who have built IoT or home automation systems.

**What technologies or architecture would you recommend for a project like this?**

Also, what features would make this genuinely useful in a real home instead of just being a cool demo?
