8 Ping Yang Now Open With New Energy And Experience Straight Off The Grill On E Union

CHS would feel bad showing you the sincere effort going on at E Union’s new restaurant 8 Ping Yang — but they know what they are in for. The food and drink business is a brutal one but the first time restaurateur behind the new Asian grill joint has a seasoned business partner. Both are giving their all at 8 Ping Yang.
CHS first reported on the new venture here as restaurant rookie Ben Evans and vet Suttabusya “Ice” Thiraphan are collaborating on the Asian fusion grill concept that has taken over the lovely space left behind by the closure of OOLA ater an 18 month return to the Hill. The restaurant was also the longtime home of Marjorie before its move a few blocks east to 23rd and Union.
“This is my first time on the operational and owner side of the business versus just being an employee,” Evans told CHS earlier this year. “So this is a whole new world for me. I brought Ice on board to be a mentor and someone I can learn from.”
Now that 8 Ping Yang is in motion, diners will find a sprawling menu of charcoal goodness with a variety of meats and seafood to throw on the grill plus sides like grilled pork jowl and hat-yai chicken.
For lunch, there are simpler options like the chiang mai burger plus a full menu of Thai congee. Or stop in for the late night menu for skewers and grilled steak specials.
Dessert? Thai tea creme brulee, pineapple cheesecake, and more await.
Craft cocktails, beer, and wine are ready to help wash it down.
Will the new venture make it in the challenging world of Capitol Hill food and drink? With energy and experience, 8 Ping Yang is off to a good start at 14th and Union.
8 Ping Yang is located at 1412 E Union. Follow @8_pingyang for updates.
