AAA expecting busy Memorial Day weekend for travel
Officials with AAA believe over 45 million people will travel at least 50 miles from their homes for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.

Delta Air Lines resumed its daily flights to Tel Aviv on Tuesday after a temporary suspension due to airstrikes near Ben Gurion Airport earlier this month.

The carrier said the decision to resume the route, which flies nonstop from New York (JFK) to Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv (TLV), "follows an extensive security risk assessment by the airline" in a press release on Tuesday.

Since the conflict escalated in Oct. 2023, global carriers – including Delta, American Airlines and United Airlines – started to temporarily halt service to Tel Aviv. United Airlines resumed its route between Newark and Tel Aviv on March 15, plus added a second flight on March 29, following "a detailed assessment of operational considerations for the region and close work with the unions who represent our flight attendants and pilots."

On May 4, Yemen's Houthi rebels fired a missile that landed near Ben Gurion Airport, prompting several global airlines to pause service again.

Many European airlines, such as Virgin Atlantic, continue with the suspension indefinitely.

"Delta is continuously monitoring the evolving security environment and assessing operations based on security guidance and intelligence reports," Delta said.

The airline also issued a travel waiver for customers who purchased tickets to TLV for before May 5 for travel through May 25. Rebooked travel must take place on or before June 15.
