FBI issues tips for travelers going abroad for spring break
The FBI's Los Angeles field office issued tips to Americans traveling abroad for spring break, urging travelers to stay safe.

A cruise passenger died in an apparent jet ski accident in the Bahamas over the weekend.

An initial investigation found the woman, a British/Czechoslovakia national, allegedly collided with a rock after losing control of the vehicle on Saturday, the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) said in a Facebook post. “Medical personnel rendered assistance to the victim but to no avail,” the statement said. “She was pronounced deceased by the local medical doctor.”

The RBPF told USA TODAY that the investigation is ongoing, and there are no further updates.

The 73-year-old woman was sailing with Holland America Line, the company said. “Holland America Line regrets to confirm that a passenger onboard Nieuw Amsterdam passed away following a tragic incident on a personal watercraft,” a spokesperson told USA TODAY in an emailed statement.

The ship was visiting the recently renamed private destination RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay – formerly Half Moon Cay – at the time. The ship departed on a Caribbean cruise from Fort Lauderdale on March 16, according to CruiseMapper.

“We are in contact with the guest’s family and doing everything we can to support them during this difficult time,” the statement continued. “The accident is currently being investigated by the Bahamian authorities. Out of respect for the family and guest, we do not have further information to share.”
