While the phrase “Super Bowl or Bust” has been thrown around in years past when it comes to the 49ers, All-Pro tackle Trent Williams doesn’t believe that should be the mentality of his team as they head towards the 2025 NFL season.

“I don’t really approach it like that,” Williams said on Thursday. “Every team is different, this team is different from last year. We got our own certain set of challenges in front of us. You know, I don’t look at it being ‘anything or bust’ but obviously we want to be successful. We have the talent to be successful.”

On the other hand, Williams says that with Super Bowl XL taking place at Levi’s Stadium in February, that could pose as some extra incentive.

“There’s no greater motivator than the Super Bowl being here right in our backyard,” Williams said. “Obviously, we got a long way to go. We got to get to Week 1. We need to get some guys back in the lineup, but no, I think this team, for us to maximize our potential, I think we got to focus one week at a time.”

The 49ers – especially on the offensive side – have been bitten by the injury bug recently and that is another reason why Williams believes it’s too early to be talking about a potential title run. Instead, he just wants his team to focus on their 17 regular-season games.

“I don’t think Super Bowl should be at the forefront of anybody’s mind,” Williams said. “I think it should be having the best regular season we possibly can have and getting into a playoff game and letting it go from there.”

While Williams might not want to focus on confetti falling on him and the rest of the 49ers at Levi’s Stadium, a trip to the Super Bowl – and a victory — for the 37-year-old future Hall of Fame player would certainly be a script right out of the movies.
