Steelers Interview Questionable Candidate For Special Teams Coach

The Pittsburgh Steelers still have two key vacancies on their coaching staff. Pittsburgh is still without an offensive coordinator and a special teams coach. While it was largely expected they would be replaced anyway, Arthur Smith took the offensive coordinator job at Ohio State, and Danny Smith left for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to fill their special teams coordinator vacancy.

As they continue to build their staff and fill those openings, the Steelers are interviewing former Buffalo Bills special teams coordinator Matthew Smiley, per Jeremy Fowler.

Smiley’s units with the Bills struggled. In 2024, his last year with the Bills, Buffalo allowed the fifth-most yards per kickoff return and a kickoff return touchdown. They also had a punt unit that ranked in the bottom half of the league.
