Steelers Eyeing Trade For 15-td Playmaker With Aaron Rodgers Ties: Report

Now that the Pittsburgh Steelers have built up a war chest of 2026 draft picks thanks to the jettisoning wide receiver George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys, the team has a glaring hole in its offense that needs to be plugged.

Pittsburgh acquired wideout DK Metcalf earlier in the offseason, giving the team a bona-fide star No. 1 pass-catcher, but with Pickens gone, the WR depth behind Metcalf — Robert Woods, Calvin Austin III, Roman Wilson, Scotty Miller, Ke’Shawn Williams — leaves much to be desired.

But after a new report from Andrew Filliponi of 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh, it seems the Steelers are already looking to fill the spot vacated by Pickens with a receiver who has previous ties to four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers, who most expect to sign with the team sometime before training camp.

“Source: The Steelers have inquired about Packers WR Romeo Doubs,” Fillipponi wrote. “Green Bay drafted 2 WRs. And Aaron Rodgers played with Doubs in 2022. It’s believed Rodgers really likes Doubs. We’ll see where this goes.”

Doubs played with Rodgers during his rookie season in 2022.

That year, he caught 42 passes for 425 yards and three touchdowns in 13 games. And while those numbers may not be all that impressive, they’re solid considering Doubs was essentially the fourth option in Green Bay’s offense that season behind Allen Lazard, Christian Watson, and tight end Robert Tonyan.

Doubs has topped the 600-yard plateau each of the last two seasons, and he’s totaled 1,700 yards and 15 touchdowns in three years with the Packers.

The 25-year-old WR is the second former Packer to be linked to the Steelers. On Thursday, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio mentioned that Lazard could be in play for the Steelers as well.

The 29-year-old wideout played with Rodgers last season with the Jets, logging 37 receptions, 530 yards, and six touchdowns, and if Pittsburgh is desperate enough, it could pry Lazard away from New York with its bevy of extra draft picks.
