Nineteen Clarksville area athletes — 13 girls and six boys — qualified for the TSSAA state track and field championships through top-four finishes at the Class AAA Section 3 meet, which took place May 7-8 at Ravenwood High School.

The Class AAA state meet will take place on May 22 at Dean Hayes Stadium on the campus of Middle Tennessee State as part of Spring Fling. The Class A and AA meets are scheduled for May 20, and the Division II-A and II-AA meets for May 21.

The pentathlon and decathlon in all classes will take place at Kirkwood High School on May 14-15.

Kenwood's Marie Jones was the area's lone section champion, winning the Section 3-AAA discus title with a throw of 113 feet, four inches. Jones also placed third in the shot put.

Jones and Northwest's Gabrielle Taylor were the only two Montgomery County athletes to qualify as individuals in multiple events. Taylor placed fourth in the high jump and in the pentathlon.

Rossview's Micah Parker also qualified in multiple events, placing fourth in the boys 400 and helping the Hawks' 4x400-meter relay team take fourth as well.

Athletes and relay teams needed to finish in the top four of their respective events.

In Class AAA, the Northeast girls tied for eighth with 30 points, while Rossview was the top Montgomery County boys team with 13 points, tying for 17th.
