According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Carolina Panthers are adding former Packer, former Eagle, and current very in-shape running back AJ Dillon on a one year deal.

Dillon, who is in incredible shape right now, was drafted by the Packers in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft despite the team already possessing a solid one-two punch of Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams and notoriously little receiving help for Aaron Rodgers beyond Davante Adams. He was productive in his limited touches as a rookie but saw his efficiency diminish in each subsequent year. He missed all of the 2024 season due to a recurring issue with a stinger in his neck.

He signed with the Eagles last season but was seldom used behind Saquon Barkley. He managed to pick up 60 yards with his 12 total carries. And now he’s in incredible shape.

The Panthers have made a habit of adding veteran backfield depth in free agency. First, it was Miles Sanders. Then we got one year of Rico Dowdle. Dillon seems poised to be the next back to spell Chuba Hubbard. It’ll be interesting to see how the team divvies up the workload between Dillon and its young backs, particularly Jonathon Brooks if he’s healthy. But Dillon is in incredible shape, so the RB2 job might be his to lose.
