Marion County Track And Field Meet Full Results As Rv Sweeps Team Titles

Wednesday was a throwback night for the Marion County Track and Field Meet at Elgin.

Today's four county schools are carrying on the tradition of the old Marion County League, which included Claridon, Caledonia, Martel, Waldo, New Bloomington, LaRue, Green Camp, Prospect, Morral, Meeker, Kirkpatrick and Pleasant before consolidation ended in the early 1960s.

River Valley won the boys and girls team trophies, but athletes from all schools enjoyed their moments.

Here are the results from the meet on May 7:

Murphy the fastest male in Marion County

Pleasant senior Sean Murphy earned the title of fastest boy in the county, winning the 100-meter dash in 11.5 seconds and the 200 in 23.03. Nearly spoiling it was RV's Gideon Owings, who was second in the 100 in 11.52 and runner-up in the 200 at 23.45. RV's Ian Burns was third in both, running 11.7 and 23.81.

Murphy showed his versatility by posting a 50.65 to also win the 400. Ridgedale's Breyton RIchmond was second in 51.22, and Pleasant's Will Lichtenberger was third in 52.51.

McFarland the fastest female in Marion County

Senior Madaline McFarland of River Valley won the girls 100 in 13.41 and the 200 in 27.77. Pleasant's Niluh Squires was a runner-up in the 100 in 13.65, while RV's Finley Blevins did the same in the 200 in 28.63. Ridgedale's McKayla Weederspoon was third in each event, running 13.69 and 28.9.

The girls 400 was won by Pleasant freshman Madelyn Timmons in 1:11.4, as teammate Kylie Berry was second in 1:12.6 and Ridgedale's Haleigh Townsend third in 1:13.55.

Weston brothers go the distance

Only a freshman, Eliot Weston won the boys 1600 in 4:42.8. He edged Pleasant's Joey Dietsch who ran a 4:43.01, while Eliot's older brother, junior Brogan Weston, was third in 4:47.19.

Those same faces also had a fantastic finish in the 3200, in which a little over a second separated the top four. Brogan Weston ran 11:58.79 to win it, while Dietsch was second in 11:59.02, Elliot Weston third in 11:59.94 and RV's Kael Schwartz was fourth in 11:59.96.

In the boys 800, Pleasant senior Elijah McGinniss won in 2:01.59 and was followed by Ridgedale's Isaac Lust in 2:10.35 and Elgin's Aiden Gubernath in 2:18.18.

Who were the top hurdlers?

River Valley's Adison Babb easily won the boys 110 hurdles in 16.5, as Elgin's Hunter Johnston was second in 18.15 and Gubernath was third in 19.19. Babb also took the 300 hurdles in 43.42 and was followed by Ridgedale's Mason Turner in 43.49 and Pleasant's Keean Perriguey in 46.61.

Pleasant's Taydon Obenour was fastest in the girls 100 hurdles, clocking a 16.04. Ridgedale's Maddie McKenzie was next in 16.48 and Pleasant's Sarah Jordan in 17.1. Jordan bounced back to earn the 300 hurdles title with a 49.09 followed by Obenour's 51.91 and RV's Chloe Osborne's 52.53.

Girls mix it up in distance races

Pleasant senior Nicole Robinson was tops in the girls 800 with a 2:36.19, while RV's Addison Ebert was runner-up in 2:42.01 and Pleasant's Rylie Gwinner third in 2:54.45. In the 1600, RV's Erica Mason and Madison Lust went 1-2 in times of 5:56.02 and 6:01.44 as Robinson was third in 6:09.45. Lust and Mason were first and second in the 3200 in 13:26.77 and 13:55.09, and Pleasant's Olivia Meyers was third in 14:42.08.

Three schools win relay titles

Ridgedale's girls were the fastest in the 4x100 relay, clocking a 54.8 to top the 57.11 by Pleasant and 58.35 by Elgin. In the girls 4x200, Pleasant was quickest with a 1:57.12 to edge Ridgedale's 1:58.54 and RV's 1:59.62. Pleasant also won the girls 4x400 in 4:32.93, and RV was next at 4:44.16 and Elgin at 5:37.39. The Vikings won the 4x800 with an 11:33.66. Pleasant ran in 12:09.5 and Elgin in 12:22.0.

River Valley's boys were fastest around the track in the 4x100 with a 46.72. Elgin was next in 46.8 and Pleasant in 47.48. RV was also best in the 4x200 with a 1:35.97 and followed by Pleasant's 1:38.27 and Elgin's 1:40.02. Pleasant was tops in the 4x400 at 3:33.89, while Ridgedale was close in 3:34.92, and RV turned in a 3:49.83. Ridgedale's distance crew won the 4x800 in 8:24.15. Pleasant ran 8:49.76 and RV 11:37.64.

RV remains PV High

In the girls pole vault, River Valley senior Eva Moran returned from a foot injury to win it with a vault of 11 feet. Blevins, only a freshman, was right behind at 10 feet, 6 inches, while Elgin's Kyndal Bowersmith had a vault of 6-6. On the boys side, RV's Ben Isler won at 13 feet, while Elgin's Wingate Carey had a 10-foot vault and Johnston an 8-6 vault.

Big jumps from freshman

Ridgedale freshman Colt Rawlins is the county's top jumper among boys. He won the high jump at 6 feet and the long jump at 19-9 1/2. Pleasant's Jacob Meyers was runner-up in both, going 5-6 in the high jump and 17-9 1/4 in the long jump. Archer Johnston of Elgin was third in the high jump at 5-6, and RV's Riley Hummel was third in the long jump at 17-3 3/4.

Elgin senior Delainy Boles took the girls long jump with a effort of 15-7 1/2, while McFarland and Osborne were next for RV at 14-11 1/2 and 14-4 3/4. In the girls high jump, RV freshman Averie Strine won at 4-6, while Osborne and Ridgedale's Aadelyn Cook tied for second at 4-2.

RV has strongest throwers

River Valley sophomore Madalyn Gwinner swept the throws, winning the discus in 108-7 and the shot put in 31-5 3/4. Elgin's Jordan Wall was a runner-up in both, going 92-7 and 29-9 1/2. Ridgedale's Callie Comer was third in the discus at 79-4 and Pleasant's Madalyn O'Donnell was third in the shot put at 27-4.

On the boys side, RV senior Tyson Waddle won the discus title with a 121-1, while Ridgedale's Britton Pottkotter was second in 120-0 and Elgin's Garret Lowry third in 115-6. RV junior Jackson Kloha took the shot put in 44-3 1/2 with Pottkotter a runner-up again in 43-2 and Waddle getting third in 42-6.
