As the 49ers deal with a plethora of injuries in their wide receivers room, they also likely will be without new addition Demarcus Robinson to start the 2025 NFL season.
San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed Wednesday on KNBR that Robinson will be suspended for the 49ers’ first three regular-season games after violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy, telling the radio station that the team will be without the veteran wideout for the first three weeks.
“Yes,” Shanahan told host Adam Copeland when asked if the suspension is confirmed. “You can always appeal it, so we’ll hope for the best on that, but [three weeks] is what we’re planning for.”
COPES: "Is that a confirmed suspension (for Demarcus Robinson) it'll be three weeks to start the year?"
KYLE SHANAHAN: "Yes. You can always appeal it so we'll hope for the best on that, but (three weeks) is what we're planning for."

In January, Robinson was charged with one misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of alcohol stemming from his arrest in November. He signed a two-year, $9.5 million contract with the 49ers in March after spending the past two seasons with the Los Angeles Rams.
Robinson pleaded no contest to the charge in July and was sentenced to three years’ probation. He also had to pay a $390 fine and complete a three-month alcohol education program, along with other court-mandated programs, the L.A. City Attorney’s office told ESPN.
Shortly before Robinson, 30, signed with San Francisco, Rams general manager Les Snead implied the receiver’s off-field situation impacted whether or not Los Angeles would re-sign him.
“We’re still working through all those situations,” Snead told reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. “He does have some things that he has to work through legally in the offseason that could prevent some playtime in the future. That’s the reality. That’s what you have to work through. We appreciate what he’s definitely done.”
The NFL declined to comment on Robinson’s suspension when asked Wednesday by NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco. As it stands, Robinson would miss the 49ers’ games against the Seahawks in Seattle, the Saints in New Orleans and the Arizona Cardinals at Levi’s Stadium.
Robinson, a nine-year NFL veteran, was arrested in the early morning of Nov. 25 after a Rams home game against the Philadelphia Eagles. He was pulled over a few miles from the Rams’ training complex in Woodland Hills after California Highway Patrol officers reported a white Dodge sedan driving over 100 mph on the U.S. 101.
Robinson identified himself as the driver and, according to the report, had “objective signs and symptoms of alcohol impairment.”
During two preseason games so far, Robinson has caught five passes for 64 yards. He caught 31 passes last season for 505 yards and seven touchdowns with the Rams.
While Shanahan stated the 49ers will appeal the league’s decision, it appears as if the shorthanded squad also can count on Robinson’s absence to start a pivotal season.
With the uncertainty surrounding Robinson and other injuries at the position, the 49ers on Wednesday acquired wide receiver Skyy Moore from the Chiefs, a source confirmed to NBC Sports Bay Area’s Jennifer Lee Chan. San Francisco and Kansas City will swap future sixth- and seventh-round draft picks, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported.
