Kyle Juszczyk, Ben Bartch Sustain Significant Injuries In 49ers' Win Vs. Browns

Ben Bartch, who opened the 2025 NFL season as the 49ers’ starting left guard and shared the duties after his return from an early season injury, is expected to miss the remainder of the season.
Bartch sustained a likely Lisfranc foot injury and will require surgery, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said on Monday. Bartch is expected to be placed on injured reserve.
Bartch played 21 snaps in the 49ers’ 26-8 victory over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday at Huntington Bank Field. It will be his second trip to injured reserve this season. He sustained a high ankle sprain in the 49ers’ Week 2 game at New Orleans.
Spencer Burford, who has started the past five games, will now be the team’s full-time left guard.
“I think each week he’s gotten better and better,” Shanahan said of Burford. “It’s his first time playing on the left side, and I think he’s playing at a very good level, and I think he’ll only improve as the year goes.”
Nine-time Pro Bowl fullback Kyle Juszczyk sustained a ribs fracture that forced him out of Sunday’s game. Juszczyk will be evaluated after the 49ers return from their bye week, Shanahan said.
After their week off, the 49ers (9-4) take their three-game win streak on the line against the Tennessee Titans on Dec. 14 at Levi’s Stadium.
Rookie linebacker and special-teams player Nick Martin sustained a concussion on Sunday and must clear the NFL’s return-to-play protocol in order to receive clearance to return to action.
Kicker Eddy Piñeiro is expected to be back in action when the 49ers return from the bye week. Piñeiro sustained a right hamstring strain in the 49ers’ Week 11 game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Veteran kicker Matt Gay filled in for Piñeiro and made all four field-goal attempts and all four extra points over the past two games.
The 49ers remain hopeful linebacker Tatum Bethune (ankle), and defensive linemen Yetur Gross-Matos (hamstring) and Sam Okuayinonu (ankle) will be available to return after the bye week.
Gross-Matos has appeared in just five games this season due to a hamstring injury that originally sidelined him on Oct. 2. He returned to practice only to sustain a re-injury during practice. The 49ers placed him on injured reserve on Nov. 1.
“Yetur had a good workout today, so hopefully that continues over our week away and, hopefully, he’s good to go next week when we start up,” Shanahan said.
