Kayshon Boutte Remains Uncertain About Patriots Future

New England Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte’s future continues to remain in limbo.

With Boutte entering the final year of his rookie contract, he told reporters on Thursday there have not been any recent conversations regarding his future with the team.

For now, Boutte continues to show up and make plays on the practice field.

“I’m a pretty positive person. I come in every day ready to work,” Boutte said. “It’s another opportunity. You could be without a job. I mean, I get to wake up every day at 7 a.m., come here, do what I do — make plays. That’s my life.”

After the additions of A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs this offseason, Boutte was pushed further down the Patriots’ wide receiver depth chart. On Thursday, he said he still believes there is a role for him that makes sense in the offense.

But with his first major payday on the horizon, a larger opportunity elsewhere also remains a possibility — something that factored into his trade request this spring.

“Ultimately, it’s whatever’s best for me,” Boutte said. “Whether it’s here or somewhere else, I gotta do what’s best for me.”

As for what that ultimately looks like, Boutte is content letting things play out for the time being.

“I can’t really say today. I gotta see how things play out. I’m taking it day by day. I’m not a future teller, so I couldn’t tell you,” Boutte said. “Just keep doing what I’ve been doing. That’s really all I can do. I can’t control nothing else.”

Through 11 training camp practices, Boutte has made several highlight-reel plays downfield. He has split his time between the first- and second-team offense, although he repped more with Drake Maye on Thursday with Doubs sidelined.

The quarterback has appreciated Boutte’s approach throughout the uncertainty.

“I think just the way Kayshon is approaching it, man. He’s here now. He’s where his feet are at, and I’m having fun throwing it to him out there in practice,” Maye said Wednesday. “He’s doing a great job, and he makes plays when the football’s in the air. And I think he can speak for that, and that speaks for itself. So, I’ve had a lot of great times with Kayshon, and I’m looking forward to us getting better each and every day.”
