Jadeveon Clowney On His Release From The Panthers: 'they Wanted Me Out Of The Building'

On Thursday, the Carolina Panthersreleased the veteran outside linebacker just one season into his two-year, $20 million deal. Shortly after, Joe Person of The Athletic caught up with Clowney and asked for his thoughts on the move.

“I went to OTAs Day 1 and they kinda told me they weren’t expecting me to be there. I got a sense then they wanted me out of the building,” Clowney told Person. “I was just like, ‘Y’all could’ve told me this back when I was coming in here during the offseason.’ I kinda had a sense, though. I’ve been around the game long enough to know, so I was OK.”

2024 marked Clowney's 11th NFL season. He ended the campaign with 46 combined tackles, his most since 2018, and a team-leading 5.5 sacks.

Despite his contributions, the 32-year-old Clowney didn't seem long for Carolina—especially after the team selected a pair of pass rushers, Nic Scourton and Princely Umanmielen, on Day 2 of the 2025 NFL draft.

The Panthers also signed 26-year-old Pat Jones II to a two-year, $15 million deal at the start of free agency.
