Run commuting was not something I had seriously considered until I read about “super commuters,” or athletes who use their trip to work as part of their training. After enough subway delays and time sitting in traffic, I started wondering whether running to work might actually be the better option.

I knew it would only work with the right gear, so I tested backpacks, toiletries bags, headphones and other essentials over hundreds of miles to see what could make run commuting feel realistic on a workday.
