Hollywood Brown explains why he's excited to play with Jalen Hurts originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia
Hollywood Brown has played with a couple of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. He played with Lamar Jackson in Baltimore and Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City.
And now as Brown comes to Philadelphia to join the Eagles, he’s excited to play with Jalen Hurts.
Brown and the Eagles agreed to terms on a one-year deal on Tuesday. Then he hopped on Speakeasy with LeSean McCoy and Emmanuel Acho, where he was asked about a bunch of different topics, including his opinion on his new starting quarterback.
“I always been a fan of Jalen Hurts from even his story back at Alabama,” Brown said. “I took the long road to where I got, so I always root for guys that went on that journey, you know? And when he came to Oklahoma it was when I was coming into the league and I was considering staying in school to play with him.
“When he got into the league and just seeing the adversity he been through. Being across that sideline in the Super Bowl and seeing how calm, collected, dialed in he was and the throws he was making. You get back to home and you get on the TV and you see people saying what he can’t do, and it’s like, everybody get on TV and everybody got their opinion, that’s why we love this game. That’s why we love this sport, because anybody can chime in. You can’t be mad at somebody speaking their opinion. But I personally feel like he’s one of the top vertical passers in the league as far as his deep ball is great.”
Brown, 28, is known for his speed. He’s just 5-foot-9 and 180 pounds but Brown is fast and once ran a 4.27 at his pro day before he was drafted in the first round of the 2019 draft. Since he entered the league, Brown has caught 16 passes of 40+ yards.
Since Hurts became a full-time starter in the 2021 season, he has thrown 42 passes of 40+ yards. Just four players have thrown more: Josh Allen (49), Matthew Stafford (44), Patrick Mahomes (44) and Jared Goff (43). Hurts has earned his reputation as a deep-ball thrower.
“He’s one of the best vertical throwers in the league,” Brown said. “That’s attractive to a receiver. He’s putting it on the money. And on third down, when it matters, money downs, he can make it happen however he got to do it. It don’t matter how it look. He’s going to make it happen.”
In addition to the questions about Hurts, Brown was also asked about how he ended up in Philly, his goals in free agency and if he inquired about the A.J. Brown situation. Brown said he wants A.J. Brown to stay in Philly but allowed that the NFL is a business.
Hollywood Brown, 28, is coming off a solid season in Kansas City in 2025. He caught 49 passes for 587 yards and 5 touchdowns. For now, he’s a replacement for Jahan Dotson, who left for the Falcons in free agency.
