Former Eagles Training Camp Updates
Training camp is underway throughout the league, and there’s been a few updates from Eagles alumni — some good, some not so great. Several former Eagles are dealing with injuries, but one legendary Super Bowl winner is close to returning to the field.
Here are some updates:
Zach Ertz is medically cleared
Former Eagles tight end ended his 2025 season early after tearing his ACL, but he didn’t want that to be the last football play of his career, and he spent the offseason rehabbing. He’s now set to make a return and find a new team to sign with.
A reunion with the Eagles has been fun to suggest, but realistically, Philly’s TE room is pretty set. They’ve got Dallas Goedert leading the way, Johnny Mundt is the big blocking TE, Grant Calcaterra has benefits as a pass catcher, and head coach Nick Sirianni spoke highly of rookie Eli Stowers on Monday. Having Ertz finish his career in Philadelphia would be another storybook ending, but it probably won’t work out that way.
After tearing his ACL last season, three-time Pro Bowl TE Zach Ertz officially has been cleared for all football activities and wants to play this season. He was at Stanford today catching balls from his college QB, Andrew Luck. Ertz is expected to be ready to sign in mid-August.… pic.twitter.com/Oihgg6zFrd

A.J. Brown dislocated his thumb
The former Eagles WR is living his best life in New England based on all the interviews he’s done, but he did have to push through a little discomfort earlier in the week. Brown revealed in an interview on Monday that he dislocated his thumb during practice but just played through it. The WR said he experienced a similar injury when he was in college, so he wasn’t concerned about it being a factor moving forward.
Not even a dislocated thumb can wipe the smile off A.J. Brown’s face these days.

Kenny Pickett will start HoF game
The Panthers have had so many injuries to start training camp, so it’s no surprise that the team would hand the reigns to veteran Kenny Pickett and try to preserve QB1 Bryce Young.

Other notables
- Recent signings: CB Rasul Douglas (Commanders), CB Mario Goodrich (Titans), DE Ogbo Okoronkwo (49ers), DT Marlon Tuipulotu (Falcons).
- DB C.J. Gardner-Johnson reportedly had to shut down his live stream from the locker room after a word from head coach Joe Brady, and the next day, the safety went down with an injury during practice and had to be carted inside. It was initially thought to be an achilles injury, but thankfully, it looks like the veteran defender is dealing with a calf strain instead.
- LB T.J. Edwards had to miss the early days of Bears training camp due to a calf injury, but has been activated off the Active/Non-Football Injury list.
