Depleted 49ers reportedly are ‘making calls' on potential wide receiver trades originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

It appears the 49ers are looking to add to a depleted position before the start of the 2025 NFL season.

San Francisco is one of multiple teams making calls about potential wide receiver trades, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported Wednesday, citing sources.

The Jets are among several teams monitoring the trade market for potential wide receiver additions, per sources. The 49ers and Vikings are also making calls.

The 49ers, as NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported Monday, attempted to trade for former Texans wide receiver John Metchie III before Houston ultimately dealt him to the Philadelphia Eagles for tight end Harrison Bryant and a 2026 fifth-round NFL draft pick.

With Week 1 right around the corner, the 49ers currently are without impactful wideouts such as Jauan Jennings, Brandon Aiyuk, Jordan Watkins and Jacob Cowing as they prepare for their final preseason matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday at Levi’s Stadium.

Three of the four aforementioned receivers should be back before Week 1, if not shortly after, while Aiyuk, who is recovering from a torn ACL and MCL sustained midway through the 2024 season, likely will return somewhere around Week 6.

The 49ers still could use more depth at the position, and it appears they are looking for just that.
