Deommodore Lenoir details 49ers friendship with Chase Lucas after past beef originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

From haters to teammates to the best of friends.

That is how the relationship between 49ers cornerbacks Deommodore Lenoir and Chase Lucas has evolved over the years.

While their most recent — and viral — encounter came after the 2024 NFC Championship Game, when San Francisco defeated Lucas’ former team, the Detroit Lions, in a wild comeback win, their beef dates back even further.

Lenoir told reporters after practice Tuesday that his feud with the cornerback began in college over X, the site formerly known as Twitter. Lenoir said the two exchanged several tweets at each other but had yet to meet in person at the time.

Then they came face-to-face in the NFC title game, and the two had to be separated when things got heated quickly after the game. A few months later, the 49ers signed Lucas to their practice squad ahead of the 2024 NFL season.

Lenoir’s initial reaction to the singing went as expected.

“When he came, I called coach [Matthew Harper] and I was like, ‘Why we sign him? Why’d y’all do that? This the dude I was beefin’ with in the NFC Championship Game,’ ” Lenoir said. “And then just seeing him in the room, we didn’t talk for the first couple of weeks, we kind of just side-eyed each other like who’s going to say something first? So then, we were running off the field, this is like the first time we actually had a conversation, he was running off the field and we slapped gloves.

“Then we kind of looked at each other like, all right. Then we got cool after that.”

Nothing like a little glove tapping to resolve some beef.

“I mean, everybody’s seen the video that went viral of us going after each other in the NFC Championship Game,” Lenoir said. “But when I actually met him, he was actually one of the coolest guys on the team. So then our personalities clicked right away. Then he started coming to my house and stuff. And we’re playing the game and talking ball, and I found out he kind of thinks like me.

“So I looked at him as a unique person. And we’ve been tight ever since.”

Lenoir now is rooting for someone he refers to as one of his “best friends,” as Lucas is making a strong case to crack San Francisco’s 53-man roster this season.

In Saturday’s narrow 22-19 win over the Las Vegas Raiders in the second preseason game, Lucas recorded two tackles — one for a loss, one QB hit, one pass breakup, one quarterback sack and one interception.

Lucas later revealed that he manifested the interception, and he hopes his good fortune continues and lands him a roster spot with San Francisco.
