LOS ANGELES -- The New York Islanders have traded defenseman Noah Dobson to the Montreal Canadiens, first reported by Kevin Weekes.

Stefen Rosner (@stefen_rosner) on XBelieve 23-year-old Emil Heineman is part of the return. Also believe both MTL picks (No. 16 & No. 17) will be part of this as well. We will wait for official wording.

Elliotte Friedman reports that he signed an eight-year extension worth $9.5 million annually.

We will wait on an announcement on the returns.

Dobson, 25, was a pending restricted free agent with arbitration rights. After a 70-point campaign in 2023-24, with 10 goals and 60 assists, he regressed offensively in 2024-25.

He recorded 39 points (10 goals, 21 assists) in 71 games, and given that it was a contract year, that certainly impacted things.

New general manager Mathieu Darche was trying to work with his camp on an extension, while also testing the market to see what other NHL teams were willing to offer up.

Drafted 12th overall in 2018, Dobson played 388 games for the Islanders, recording 230 points with 50 goals and 180 assists, averaging 20:53 per game.

In 31 playoff games, the Prince Edward Island native recorded 10 assists.
