Boys Tennis Roundup: Willmar Picks Up A Non-conference Victory

May 8—WILLMAR — The Willmar boys tennis team defeated Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd 5-2 in a non-conference match on Thursday night.

Ryan Newberg, Carter Newberg, Sam Loerzel and Deven Hegreberg all earned two-set wins as the Cardinals swept the singles matches.

LQPV/DB got its two points from the doubles teams of Luke Stock and Brody Bothun and Cole Percy and Aidan Menning. Both duos won in straight sets.

The No. 2 doubles was the only one to reach a three-set tiebreak. Willmar's Miguel Garcia and Nehemiah Van Horne beat Broady Nelson and Hudson Giese 2-6, 7-6 (2) and 12-10.

LQPV/DB plays a pair of matches Saturday at 10 a.m. at Luverne and at 1:30 p.m. at Pipestone. Willmar plays a Central Lakes match at noon Monday at Detroit Lakes.

Alex Carlson, Andrea Beqaraj and Bence Banoczky at Nos. 1, 2 and 4 singles earned wins for the Braves, as did doubles partners Joey Wilcox and Carson Petrak at No. 1 and Brooks Groinus and Cian Klucas at No. 2 in Benson's victory against St. John's Prep at Benson.

Benson competes at 4:15 p.m. Friday at Litchfield.

St. Cloud swept the doubles matches to beat Litchfield at St. Cloud Tech.

Lincoln Dille earned the point for the Dragons. He beat Charles Simon 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.

Litchfield hosts Benson at 4:15 p.m. Friday.

Drew Bleick, Carter LeClair and Aidric Vold at Nos. 2, 3 and 4 singles and Tyler Kohn and Carter Myrom at No. 3 doubles secured wins to boost Minnewaska over Litchfield at St. Cloud Tech.

Litchfield got its three points from Lincoln Dille at No. 1 singles, Josh Blomberg and Matthias Bruning at No. 1 doubles and Matt Defries and Grayson Swenson at No. 2 doubles.

Minnewaska hosts a triangular Friday. The Lakers compete at 1:30 p.m. against Osakis and at 4:30 p.m. against Detroit Lakes.

The Crush got two wins each from their singles players and their doubles teams to edge Minnewaska at St. Cloud Tech.

Drew Bleick and Carter LeClair won at Nos. 2 and 3 singles for the Lakers, who also got a victory from Xavier Johnson and Easton Palmer at No. 2 doubles.

Jameson Dragt had the lone win for New London-Spicer in a loss to Redwood Valley at Redwood Falls.

At No. 3 singles, Dragt beat the Cardinals' Yzykiel Rendon, 6-4, 6-2.
