Was the 49ers’ latest trade meant to be a secret solution to the Jauan Jennings situation?

San Francisco general manager John Lynch joined KNBR’s “Murph & Markus” on Thursday morning and was asked if the 49ers acquiring wide receiver Skyy Moore in a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs on Wednesday was intended to send a message to Jennings during his contract hold-in that was interrupted by injury.

“No message,” Lynch clarified. “We like the player, Skyy. We love Jauan. We’re getting close to the season. Players got to practice, but if they’re not healthy enough to do it, they can’t. So that’s kind of where we’re at with Jauan right now.

“We’re getting there, where we got to get out there on that field. We’ll cotninue to let that thing unfold.”

Jennings, coming off a career-best 2024 campaign with San Francisco, is seeking a new contract or wants the 49ers to trade him elsewhere.

He still showed up and participated in the start of training camp, but a nagging calf issue has kept him sidelined for weeks.

Some have began to wonder if Jennings’ absence has been solely because of the injury, or if it’s contract-related — or both. The 49ers have been tight-lipped about the situation, only relaying their cautiousness with Jennings’ calf issue and hopes to have Jennings remain with the team.

With Week 1 of the 2025 campaign about two weeks away, Lynch also was asked if there is a level of frustration from him about the situation.

“No,” he responded. “Like I said, Jauan’s a big part of this team, and we’re looking forward to the time when he’s back out there again and hopefully that’s soon.”

San Francisco opens the new season on the road against the Seahawks in Seattle on Sept. 7 at Lumen Field.
