49ers Among Two Teams That Are ‘nuclear Hot’ For Maxx Crosby

Hondo Carpenter, who covers the Las Vegas Raiders for Sports Illustrated, linked the San Francisco 49ers to star pass rusher Maxx Crosby:

I am telling you there is a lot of interest in Maxx Crosby. Two teams, specifically, nuclear hot — the Eagles and the 49ers. I still believe there are two, maybe as many as three, other teams absolutely in play for Maxx.

Carpenter acknowledged that neither Crosby nor Raiders management is in a rush to get a deal done, but added that Crosby isn’t untouchable in the eyes of the Raiders like he was last season, making him available.

So it’s no surprise that teams are interested in him. A botched trade to the Ravens told us as much.

Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Even if it’s just a rumor, maybe Carpenter has heard that the 49ers are making a stronger push than all of the other teams, which is why they are listed.

It’s also not the first time a Crosby to the 49ers connection has been made. A week ago, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer shared his thoughts on when a potential trade could take place.

This comes down to whether the 49ers are satisfied with their edge rusher rotation. That’ll depend on the health of Nick Bosa and Mykel Williams, and how “cheap” Crosby could be had.

There’s zero concern about Crosby being a fit. Any defense would find a way to make it work with a player of the caliber of Crosby. A move like this would slide the 49ers right back into the driver’s seat of being Super Bowl favorites, even with the Rams’ addition of Myles Garrett. The two best teams in the NFL would be in the same division.

But that’s a big if.
