The 49ers made a series of key roster moves ahead of Sunday’s pivotal Week 6 road game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Safety Malik Mustapha officially was activated from the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list after recovering from ACL surgery in January.

San Francisco opened his practice window on Monday, and now that he’s active, can be available to make his season debut Sunday in Tampa.

Mustapha, a fourth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft out of Wake Forest, started 12 games as a rookie and told reporters earlier this week that he’s excited to pick up where he left off.

Additionally, the 49ers waived Robert Beal Jr. and activated defensive lineman Trevis Gipson from the team’s practice squad to be available against the Buccaneers.

Gipson played his first game with the 49ers on Thursday Night Football against the Los Angeles Rams — and he didn’t let the opportunity go to waste. The six-year pro broke through and recovered a fumbled handoff in 49ers territory from Rams running back Blake Corum.

Gipson spoke to NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco about what that moment meant to him after experiencing the highs and lows of the NFL.

“It was amazing,” Gipson told Maiocco. “I just had to make sure I was prepared, make sure I stayed ready for the moment. I had no clue when my number would get called this season, and I was lucky enough to have a ball bounce towards us, towards our defense, and secure it.”

Now, with injuries along the 49ers’ defensive line, it appears he’ll get another chance on Sunday.
