Was Arrested; Made State News. Allegations Were False/overblown. My Lawyer Says Since I Didnt Lose My Job, I Cant Sue Anyone.

I am not going to give more details to avoid doxing. I was arrested for a family related investigation. So case was dual family court and criminal. The kids are back after 3 mos. Case still ongoing, but likely outcome it will go away legally.
The initial character assasination of me was extreme. The investigators (including police) said I was an unemployed deadbeat dad. Ironically, this saved my job. No one looked to get me fired. That, combined with my lack of linkedin.
I work for a major company in a remote role. This contributed to their belief I was unemployed.
They initially implied I was a methhead, then changed that up to simply "he needs help."
My crime? Smoking pot around my kids. Yup. By the way, im in a legal state. Just a MAGA area.
What pisses me off is the stories are baaaad. I got internet fb commentors calling me a pedo. Saying "why are they allowed to have their kids back?"
Its easy to find our address with news stories.
It seems criminal charges will "go away." They expect me to be happy with that? Like wtf. No chance to get a resolution?? Just my name is trashed forever?
It pisses me off extra that the headline grabbing accusation is BS and already accepted by state it wasnt true.
