Trying To Find Some Advice To Deal With The First Serious Manic Episode Of A Bipolar Significant Other
Location: California.
Hey all, this is a throwaway for obvious reasons. I'm located in California and I need some advice on several matters.
First, my wife is having her first really serious manic episode. She was only properly diagnosed with bipolar this year and had been treating it reasonably well, but a family catastrophe threw her into mania and now she is a nightmare. Physically abusive, verbally abusive, has no filter around our two kids. She's made threats to call the police and tell them that I hit her to get me thrown out of the house when she's angry. Fortunately I've managed to record a couple of these tirades and I don't think she could actually manage to give me arrested for that with the recordings that I've got, but needless to say it has made me extremely concerned. If things get much worse I may need to find a way to get some kind of emergency full custody, but I don't even know how that would work. Just for your information, she has a therapist and a psychiatrist but is refusing to take the antipsychotics treatment but is continuing the mood stabilizers.
Second, she's spending money like crazy. Like $15,000 in the last month at least. She's mowing through our savings. I don't know what the hell to do about it. She is absolutely not reasonable in any way shape or form.
In a worst case scenario, what could I do to protect not only my family, but also are rapidly dwindling financial resources.
