Someone Is Using My Address While In Legal Trouble.
Location: Upstate New York.
We have lived in our house for over 2 years. For the last 6-8 months or so, we have been receiving mail for a man who has never lived at our address. I live in a mobile home park and I have checked with the park manager - she said there is no record of anyone, anywhere in this park with his name in the park's database, and that he may be using a family member's old address, or just a random address to deter people that are looking for him.
The mail we are receiving leads me to believe this man is in some sort of legal trouble. It is usually from the Florida Department of Revenue, or our local Department of Social Services. USPS has tried 4 times to deliver us certified mail for this man. Each time, we tell them he does not live here. When I get letters in the mail for him, I write "return to sender - does not live at this address." Recently, I had a lawyer or detective of some sort pounding on my door, looking for said man. Again, I told him he does not live here, and that we have lived here for over 2 years. He said he would "let his client know." Still, the letters and attempts at certified mail continue. It's almost weekly at this point.
My fear is that the cops will show up soon, looking for this man. What are the odds they will have a search warrant? Is the fact that he is using our address enough "probable cause" for them to get one? I'm nervous and I don't want my 2 young children to be traumatized from the experience of the cops searching our house for him, if it comes down to that.
