Sold Duplicate Season Tickets

Card image cap

Location: Maryland, USA. Transaction occurred in Maryland, I live in Virginia.

Over the weekend, I bought physical season tickets for the Washington Capitals off Facebook Marketplace. Almost $1000 off. Guy said he was selling them to pay for his wife’s lupus treatment, you get the idea.

I get to the first game and the tickets don’t work. They’ve already been scanned. I speak with them box office. Turns out, this season they’ve done digital season tickets with commemorative physical tickets, either of which can be used once for entry. They put a note on the account that this is going on. The season tickets have the account holder’s name on them. I can see that the guy who sold me the tickets has a bunch of Venmo transactions with her, so it’s definitely someone he knows, maybe under his wife’s name.

Seller is totally unresponsive and it’s looking like I may be out $1500.

What’s the next course of action? File a police report? Attempt a bank charge back? Didn’t opt for “goods and services” with Venmo so I can’t go back to them for a refund. Don’t think it’s feasible to shoe up 3 hours early to every game to shut out this guy from entering.
