Old Workplace Telling Me I Double Cashed A Check?

Card image cap

Location: Florida

I worked for a movie theater/restaurant throughout 2024. I left them and now work at a different restaurant. Last month I got an email from one of the managers at my old job telling me they had an uncashed check for me (and others, this was an email to many people) and that I could come to pick it up. I was pleasantly surprised bc I definitely needed the money. The check they gave me was $484. I deposited it on Oct 15. I just got an email this morning saying, "I’m sure it was an oversight, but you double cashed that check that you asked us to recut for you. I assume you found the original and didn’t realize, but we need to get that back. $230.09" Before I respond to the manager I want to get legal advice on here. Im confused for a few reasons: because I DEFINITELY only deposited one check from them, the check is for more than they are saying they need back, and if it is a double cashed check and I cashed the "original", I cashed it back in 2024. Am I legally obligated to pay that back to them? I mean, if there was an oversight here it was from them right? And I really can't afford it.
