My Inheritance Is Being Withheld By My Mother’s Side Of The Family Until They Think “i Need It”

For context, my maternal grandma has passed away roughly 2 years ago. She left me an undisclosed amount of inheritance money in her will. My mother has been holding onto the money since her passing, and I am no longer talking to her due to her bringing an unsafe person into my home. I am currently living with a relative as I was going to live with her as a student, but had to leave for my safety and am currently displaced. I want to use the money to get my own home, but she is denying giving me the funds due to “not having enough information” about why I need it, and thinking that I’m going to waste it even though I have told her it’s for a home. I have called my grandfather (maternal, husband of my late grandma) and he said I do not get the money until my mom thinks I need it. Is this legal? I have no clue about how much it is, whose name it’s in, and the legalities of it. My mother has also been storing it improperly so that financial aid won’t know that I have it. Is it worth the fight to receive the money by court? Is it even possible that I can attain it if what they are doing is fully legal? I have so many questions. Any advice helps. Edit: I’m unsure if it’s a “proper” will, as I’ve been told it’s just been “put away” for me in a savings account that I don’t know who it belongs to. My mother has told me it’s in cash, my grandpa has told me it’s an account
