My Dad Put A $5,000 Light Bill In My Name And Now It’s Messing Up My Credit — I Don’t Know If I Should Go Legal.

I’m 20 years old and just starting my life. Recently, I found out that my dad put a utility bill (electricity) in my name without telling me — and it’s now over $5,000.
The account has gone to collections and already hit my credit report. I never gave permission for this, never lived at the address, and had no idea until it was too late.
What hurts the most is that my dad is ignoring the whole thing. He won’t talk about it and acts like it’s not a big deal, but it’s ruining my credit, and I feel stuck.
Debt collectors told me I should file a police report and dispute it, which I’ve already done. But now I’m scared. What if this turns into a legal case? I don’t want to get my dad in trouble, but I also don’t want to live with someone else’s debt and ruined credit for something I didn’t even do.
I don’t know how to feel or what to do next. Has anyone been through something like this? What happens if I take it further legally?
