I’m a Massachusetts licensed driver with a clean record since 2018.

I was cited in New Jersey for 39:4-97 careless driving (not reckless, no DUI, no accident, no drugs/alcohol). I paid the NJ fine immediately.

I then received a Massachusetts RMV notice suspending my license for 60 days under M81 careless/improper driving based on the NJ conviction.

My questions are about Massachusetts legal/administrative process: 1. If notice of suspension was only received after I was already out of state, are there Massachusetts procedures that address delayed actual notice when determining compliance or emergency hearing options? 5. Under Massachusetts law / RMV policy, how aggressively are out-of-state careless driving convictions typically treated compared with in-state first-offense careless driving?
