Landlords Are Getting A Divorce And We Are Stuck In The Middle.

We have been renting a home from a couple for 2 years and are entering the third year of tenancy. The lease was written in only the husbands name as the "housing provider" for a term of 1 year and then we would go month to month which we are into now. We dealt with the wife for everything but she was not listed in the lease documents. Rent has been paid by deposit to an account listed in the lease. Last month we get a note on the fence to call husband before paying rent. We call and he tells us of the divorce and restraining orders and tells us its bad and all this drama, stealing money ect.... Gives us a new account for deposits so mortgage gets paid. Sends us proof of mortgage payment being made all that jazz for last month. The divorce/separation has been going on since March/May and September is first we hear of rent disputes is from husband. Wife has started texting now, that money was supporting her and the kids, husband abandonded them, guilt trips that the deposit was made to a different account. I didnt answer her texts since we dont have a lease with her. A few days ago, husband called and asked if anyone had come by or if we were still ok paying the new account for October. I said I just want to pay the rent, where ever it needs to go Ill pay it. Wife texted again today saying she didnt authorize the change in account and that if rent wasnt paid to the old account for October she would involve courts. I called the assessors office to find out who is on the deed and they both are. I have not contacted either of them since calling the assessors office.

Sorry for the long back story but I wasnt sure if details mattered. I dont want us to lose our home, its pricey but who can afford to move in SoCal right now? That would hurt even more. Who do I pay the rent to? Im on hold with legal aid in San Diego but i dont have much faith in it. I can pay for a lawyer but Im not sure if I need to if its a cut and dry issue. Google searches say to send a cashiers check to both of them with AND between the names but since they have restraining orders amongst themselves I dont think that would solve the issue. I also dont want to piss off whoever ends up with the house cause again, I dont wanna move. I just dont want to be in the middle of the fighting. Please help. Unsure and dont wanna be unhoused.
