Landlord And Neighbor, With Police Escort, Cleared Out Unmarried Deceased Relative House 48 After Death. I Live In The Same State And Now Police Say It’s Civil
Location: Florida. (And Florida has a 60 day statue where landlords should wait to contact next of kin). Florida statue 83.59
Police called to let me know relative died. I was point of contact.
Landlord, speaking to a friend who claims to be point of contact despite no legal paperwork, has neighbors move out stuff into storage the next day.
Landlord won’t tell us where the storage is- says it’s for the friend out of state.
I’m in state, only adult child is also in state, we are doing probate, police say they have body cam but keep saying the person is off duty so we have to wait for that deputy to come in.
The property is going to cross state lines if we don’t get the ball rolling on this stolen property.
Items include a good amount worth of stuff if not more. Jewelry, all documents, art, purses, scripts. Only things left behind in the apartment were sentimental like photos and clothes.
Question:
What are my options? (currently doing a sunshine law request for bodycam)
what kind of attorney do I contact (and do they need to be in the same county?)
Ive gotten nowhere with landlord and neighbor who claim that since police were there, it was authorized by them.
how do I get this ball rolling.
