Individual Claimed I Was Arrested On Social Media, To A News Reporter, And To Dozens Of People On Reddit And Nextdoor. What Can I Do?
Location: Virginia
Not going too far into details as she's likely to find this post if I include specifics, but last year a former coworker falsely accused me of a crime, provided AI generated and manipulated information to the prosecution, only for the resulting verdict to be a near instant dismissal.
In the time leading up to the trial, the individual contacted our local news, and plastered my local subreddit and nextdoor with the claim that I had been arrested, and that I was charged and "guilty as they come". The moment the trial was over the news company was contacted and removed the article (under threat of a lawsuit for defamation by my lawyer).
I elected to ignore the individual as I was frankly tired of dealing with them at that point, but they have continued to harass and message my family nearly 8 months onward, and I'm more tired of them.
The worst part of all of this, is that apart from a now dropped and expunged charge, I have never even so much as recieved a parking ticket, but those posts and comments continue to chase me when I search my name.
I ask now what I can do to resolve this, or at the very least strike back at the individual who started all of this.
