I’m The Child Of A Divorced And I’m Wondering If There Is Anything I Can Do To Stop One Parent From Getting Access To My Medical Information?

Hi Reddit, I’ve never used Reddit in my life but truly did not know where to turn to. Okay context I’m 17 and my parents split when I was 14 but just officially got divorced this month. I live with my dad full time and have not talked to my mom in 3 years. The thing that sparked this conversation was the fact that I am looking into getting a pretty big medical surgery and was talking with my dad about booking consultation ect.. when he brought up having to tell my mom about the surgery. When I asked him what he meant he said it was apart of their divorce agreement. By the time I would be getting the surgery I would be over the age of 18 so I assumed that would solve the problem but he told me that he had to keep her informed until I was 24 because that is how long he is obligated to keep me on his insurance, as stated in the divorce agreement. This makes me feel so violated. Knowing that someone I do not talk to has a right to my most sensitive information even when I am an adult.

All of this to ask, is there anything I can do? This doesn’t feel legal to me.

Location: Oregon

Please help me Reddit ????
