I Live Next To A Redemption Center

Card image cap

So my husband and I worked extremely hard to buy a home in NY as young millennials. Just trying to break a generational curse ya know.

Our realtor showed us this home that is next to a "distribution center" they sold wholesale goods and everytime we visited was late afternoon and night because again we were working super hard to buy a house for our kids.Neighborhood seemed very quiet no issues.

Upon moving in, we QUICKLY realize that this distribution center does recycling operations. They collect plastic and cans inside but for reason they sort and break glass outside all over the sidewalk. Their facility is large enought to do inside as they do the plastic bottles and cans but my theory is that they dont want to make a mess in their facility so they do it outside. The noise is quite literally ear shattering. They operate 6 days a week. On top of that their patrons litter in front of our yard and fight with the people who work there. In the summer its much worst because people legit camp outside their establishment and make noise at 2-4am in the morning. We had people pee in our yard in the middle of the night. We had to spend money to buy this huge gate to protect our home. We spoke to the manager who refuses to let us speak to the owner. That old man doesnt gaf.

We called 311 so many times in the last year, they keep unsubstantiating the reports. I went to the Council Member of the area and showed her staff footage from my security cameras all the allegations but she said she'll send dsny, dep and a letter but has been useless ever since. I called the local senator office no response. I called the community board no answer. I called the State and they sent someone out quickly and that officer confirm they cannot do this outside but he had no jurisdiction. I contacted and even spoke to the NYCDEP Borough director. He sent an inspector at 9pm way after business operations. How do I know? The inspector called me at 911pm and left a voicemail! Mind you, I listed the hours of the business from 730am to 5pm.

I tried contacting lawyers to sue them to stop and pay for the damages to my property. OH did I mention they stack pallets next to my driveway which the weight has now warped my recently paved driveway!?!? But the attorney fees are astronomical.

My neighbors say the business has been around for over 20 years and the owner has serious connections thats why no one ever responds to the 311 calls. At this point, this business is making me lose my peace and my mind. I feel sooooo crazy cause everyone is ignoring me. But no one would want to tolerate living next to a place like this with their small kids.

I know this was a long winded issue but what are my options? Who do I go to about this? The attorney general? The inspector general? The damn governor? News 12!?!? Should I wait for Mamdani to come into office and beg him to make them stop? Like I just want them to conduct their glass business inside and crowd control their patrons. Should I take out a loan to sue the business? Is it worth it? Can I sue the city for negligence? Can I sue the realtor for not disclosing the nature of the business to us? What can I do to protect my peace in this house my husband and I worked soooo hard to buy?

I know this was long winded but I'm also venting so I apologize. This has been so stressful.
