Home Deed Question
Location: California
My mother (widowed) had a home that she wanted to pass down to my sister and me. It was clear to the 3 of us that my sister would eventually live in the house; however I would have access to the backyard (tennis court/pool). The house's deed is under my sister and me right now. She broached the subject about removing my name off to the deed and to add her husband.
The house is paid off and it is worth about $1.5mil. It was hard for me to ask what she was going to offer, but her response was she would make it up in the future. I had a great relationship with her so I didn't think too much of it, but the paperwork is now in my hands to remove my name off the deed and to add her husband. I've talked to my friends/colleagues/accountant and not one person said I should sign it. They all said regardless of your relationship with your sister, this could end bad for me in the end.
I told my sister that I had second thoughts and she went ballistic. I guess this is an obvious sign not to sign any documents. But is there any reason anyone of you will sign this without any compensation in writing? I have a sneaky feeling her husband has a part in this.
