Gardener Is Charging Me 10x Quoted
So earlier this morning my wife said some gardener came by to offer to fix up our front lawn. He quoted us 400 for fertilizer and labor. She asks for a contract or to get the quote in writing or for a definitive price they then threw out the $400 quote. She said yes because even if they charged a couple hundred more she thought it would be fine. They then called and sent an invoice at 8pm for $4000. We arent sure what to do we dont mind if they come back and tear up our yard but we cant pay that much or anything close to that. I have yet to look at the invoice or anything but what can I do here?
Edit: it was not a typo. Just spoke with my wife who dealt with them while I was at work. Turns out they wanted to start with 20 bags after laying that down they were a third of the way done and my wife just gave the okay to do the rest thinking it would be 60 bags well apparently they decided to also do a top coat and actually used 200 bags. At no point did they say anything about a top coat or tell my wife an estimate about how many bags it would take they just let her make assumptions possibly in an attempt to get her to approve the work.
