Fighting A Civil Case In Canada With A Guy Who Also Stole My Stuff.

Hey everyone, I’m in a bit of a situation and could really use some guidance from you guys

Long story short — I had a subtenant in Calgary, Canada who’s now filed a civil claim against me over a damage deposit. The thing is, he also took some of my personal stuff when he moved out and stole my stuff in a small town. I trusted him a lot and I got backstabbed by him. I’ve already reported that part to the police separately.

Now it’s turned into a mess — he’s emailing me non-stop, threatening legal action, and claiming false things. I just want to understand what my next steps should be, how to protect myself, and what my options are in small claims court.

If any law student or someone experienced in landlord-tenant law can help me out (even just point me in the right direction), I’d really appreciate it. I’m currently in location : Jasper, Canada. so I’d prefer to chat over call or text.
