Ex-husband Wants To Terminate His Parental Rights

Card image cap

Location: New Brunswick Canada So my ex-husband and I have been separated for 7 months and have a 16 m.o. We've been trying to coparent but atleast once every couple of months since our child was born he throws his hands up and basically tells me he's going to drop out of our lives. I've stopped fighting him when he does this and just started saying "then sign over custody." Well today he did it again but this time he said he'd sign papers and that he wants "no responsibility" to me or my child. A.k.a he wants to terminate his rights. I've looked everywhere for examples of custody documentation but everything I find mentions going through the courts. We already know what we're doing and we're both willing to sign so is court really necessary? A friend said I can just write something up and have it notarized but I'd prefer to know what my next steps need to be. I'm currently waiting for approval for legal aid but this man changes his mind at the drop of a hat and I don't think this is fair to my kid so I just want it done.
