Disinherited From Father’s Estate By A Stepsister, Any Recourse?

My maternal grandfather passed away in December at the age of 96. He was married to my step grandmother at the time of passing and they had been married 34 years. My mom came from his first marriage, along with another son, he then had a daughter in a second marriage. No kids came from his third and final marriage. My step grandmother had two living children of her own.

When my grandfather passed our family wasn’t in a hurry to claim his estate, we were all mourning. When we finally asked the step sister for information we were meant with “there’s nothing for you to do, we are in charge of everything now”. At the time my step grandmother was still living so we thought they just meant they were helping her out. Well, my step grandmother passed away a couple weeks ago and now we are finding that everything g my grandfather had was passed to my step grandmother and at her passing was then left 100% to her daughter, my moms stepsister.

Stepsister was POA and we are under the impression she had used her authority as poa to make herself the sole beneficiary.

There was no trust in place, everything apparently was left to individual beneficiaries instead of a trust. This does not align with conversations my mom and sisters had had over the years with my grandfather. He had told us all on numerous occasions that when the time comes his premarital assets were to go to his kids and hers to hers.

My grandfather had an extensive coin collection in his home, three properties, family heirlooms in his home, and investments. The stepsister cleared out the house already and gave my aunt two small boxes of photos, saying that’s all that’s left.

Do we have any recourse to get assets back? My grandfather’s entire living family has been torn out of the picture.
