Coworker Overstayed Their Welcome.

Card image cap

Location: Long Beach, CA.

Apologies for the long post, I’m actually here on behalf of my friend/coworker. And I’m just relaying information that she told me.

Ok, so my coworker Lex and her friend Dee have been living together for a good amount of years. Dee is the owner of the house, her Mom and her two kids along with Lex and her mom stay at the house. Around May of this year, Dee’s old boss, let’s just call her ‘Oldie’ cause she’s around her sixties. Anyways, Oldie got into some problems when she got to San Francisco. Apparently she moved up there from LA because of a job offer. Oldie basically sold everything she had to make the move up to Frisco. When her first day of her new job came, she was late and they let her go on the spot. Don’t know how long she was in Frisco, but I guess some friends helped her get a Greyhound ticket back to LA.

So this where everything goes downhill. Oldie and Dee were old coworkers, where Oldie was her manager. Oldie hits up Dee notifies her of her situation and needs a place to stay. Dee, thinking this is only temporary, agrees. But before she agreed, Lex, had a bad feeling about this. And warned Dee if she was sure she was doing the right thing. Because Oldie, has no money, car, and no permanent place to stay, Dee thought out of the goodness of her heart, was helping a friend get back on her feet. That was back in May of this year. Now it’s November and Oldie has not only not paid any type of rent, but has been living off of Dee and Lex and refuses to leave. In between those months, they’ve noticed a lot of their personal belongings have been stolen, (jewelry, iPhones, etc.) including money. Of course Oldie has denied all of it, but also they can’t prove Oldie did steal without any evidence. Dee and Lex have tried everything from asking her to leave nicely, to getting the police involved. The police in Long Beach said that they cannot get involved because it’s a civil matter. They even got her a spot in one of the shelters, but refuses to leave. Looking back, it seems like Oldie has done something like this before. Oldie does have family, but refuses to have any contact with her (I wonder why). So I’m asking with anyone who’s been through this and/or knows what my friends can do, any advice would help. Feel free to ask any other questions for clarity. Thanks.
