Could My Mom Be Criminally Charged Because She’s A Volunteer Leader For A Crypto Scam Group

First of all, I want to say that I'm not going to go too much into detail about specifics for personal reasons, but I will try to answer any follow up questions if it is necessary.

My mom fell for this pretty big crypto scam where a leader in this online group claims that there are specific crypto tokens (that are promoted by specific people in this group) that are going to skyrocket in price and make everyone in this group rich. I don't know how much money my mom lost in the process of this, but from my conversation with her about this it's probably upwards of $1,000.

From the limited research I have done on this group, it is overwhelmingly documented as a scam, there are no sources that say that it is a legitimate organization. All of these tokens are rugpulls, there are insider wallets who make money on all of these coins and everyone else loses money. In total, from what I have read, there has been >$1,000,000 rugpulled from these people in total (probably a lot more).

In the process of trying to convince her that this is a scam and that she needs to stop being a part of this, she told me that she is a "leader" in this group. After hearing this I immediately became 1000x more concerned, and my focus shifted from my mom getting scammed to her getting arrested on criminal charges for being a part of this group.

I asked more questions about her "leadership role" in this group and got more info:

• She is not being paid to do this whatsoever (she is a volunteer)

• She does not have any insider information on these tokens being pushed beforehand

• She is not making any money from buying any of these tokens (she has lost all of the money she put into this)

• Her primary responsibility in this group is just to "educate" people on crypto or something. She does not recruit people to this but she just "educates" them on the tokens

From my understanding, this is a big group and (without knowing anything about criminal law whatsoever) I am concerned that she could get hit with RICO charges for being a part of this.
