Cease And Desist

Hello all, I was let go from my employer unexpectedly on Monday. Tuesday I received a cease and desist text message from the CEO citing defamation, which I ignored and then I blocked him. Today I got a cease and desist letter in the mail from their attorney. I reached out to a lawyer but I am waiting to hear back. It’s Friday, I can’t wait until Monday for someone to tell me if I should be worried. I was just fired, I don’t have the money for a lawyer. I think their accusations are baseless, however the ceo seems unhinged (IMO) and while most companies probably wouldn’t come after me more, I don’t know about this person.

The C&D doesn’t explicitly say what I am accused of saying or who I said it to just “made disparaging remarks to our providers and potentially contractual partners”. It doesn’t ask for me to reply by a deadline. Some folks have told me it’s just a scare tactic but I’m not so sure.

I’ve worked there a long time and have many friends, I did tell them on the day I was let go that I had been let go. I also told a few of them that I had been lied to (which I had. I was told by one of the owners that my job wasn’t in danger, just the week before).

I’m already upset that I lost my job. I don’t want to worry about these jerks coming after me when I haven’t said anything that isn’t true. I haven’t tried to get anyone to quit or stop doing business with them.
