Can A Landlord Legally Enter My Apartment During Quiet Hours Just To Check How Things Look?

Card image cap

Location: New York, US
My lease spells out quiet hours and says the landlord has to give notice before entering unless there’s an actual emergency so last night really messed with my head. It was around 10:30 pm and I was finally settling down for the night not expecting anything when I heard my front door open and at first I thought it was the building making noise or maybe something outside because it was so out of place at that hour but then I heard slow footsteps coming down my hallway and my landlord just walked into my apartment like it was normal like no knock, no text, no call he didn’t have tools or anything in his hands he legit just said he was “checking the place” and that he “likes to make sure everything is in order.”
It wasn’t maintenance not a emergency + he didn’t mention any issue with the building or with my unit he just looked around my living room and kitchen quietly like he was doing his own private inspection. I was alone and completely caught off guard and honestly embarrassed because I wasn’t even fully dressed for someone to suddenly be standing in my space like that.
My lease says they need 24 hours written notice and none of that happened. I don’t want to escalate things if this is just something I can firmly tell him not to do again but I also don’t want to let it slide if it’s actually a violation. Do I have a real complaint here or am I overreacting. Because the whole thing felt way too intimate and wrong to just ignore.
