Accidentally Did Small Damage To A Roommate's Car While Driving. They Never Got An Estimate Or Approached Me To Repair And Kept Driving On It And It Got Worse

Location: Nebraska

When driving about 7 months ago in a friend's car, I had to slam on the breaks and go up on the median a bit to avoid a car that came flying into my lane and almost took the front end off. When I came down off the median, the car did hit a bit hard.

When I got home, there was small damage in the form of a small clip or something had broken and a corner of the back bumper was sticking out.

We looked at the whole rest of the car and nothing else was damaged. I figured she would get and estimate or maybe go to AutoZone and see if it was a small part we could fix it with, but that never happened. Eventually we all forgot about it.

Now, 7 months later, the bumper has gotten significantly worse as of recently. We got into a major verbal altercation about a week ago, pretty vulgar and angry. She has now been sending me texts about going to get an estimate on the car and is trying to make me pay for it. I'm assuming it's for the bumper for sure, but once about 2 months ago, she said something about a noise from her passenger door. I am unsure if she is trying to blame me for that as well.

I'm wondering if I am liable for all of this increased damage, or if this is negligence on her part. She never mentioned talking to her insurance company and no pictures were taken of the initial damage on the car. Just unsure if this is something I should prepare for and where to at least start if it comes to it.

This individual is somewhat litigious, but I'm not sure if she has the resources to go to small claims or to even get the estimate at all. In the recent texts, she actually says "Since you won't apologize, you will now have to pay for what I have allowed to wait longer than it should have". I'm not sure if that statement matters at all, but it seemed notable. I figured I'd try this and then look for possible free consultations if the situation gets worse.

Thank you for your time

Edit: The verbal altercation had nothing to do with car damage. It was a separate issue entirely.
