A Very Strange And Devastating Event Happened To My Family. I Found Out Our Home Was Demolished From A Celebratory News Article. It's Now An Empty Lot, What Can Be Done?

Location: The home is in Goldsboro, NC; my family residence is in Virginia

My mom after paying taxes has a habit of looking at the home via Google Street View. It makes her happy. She calls me later and says "Come down, I'm feeling weak", She and my dad called the county before waking me. Yes, it's gone. Just like that. To be honest, my whole family is in shock, the home hasn't existed since February of this year, and we just found this out yesterday. And by chance via a Google search. We don't understand how they can send us notices for taxes, but not for our home being demolished. She paid 4x just this year, and no one ever said the home no longer exists.

The county said they sent us letters, yet we never received one. I don't think they understood we live out of state. He said he would call again in 30 minutes to show us the tracking numbers, but he never called again. They said they put up signs on the home, but like I said we had no idea of any of this. No email, no phone, no court, nothing. We used to receive offers from people wanting to buy our home, when they stopped we thought it was a blessing...

We learned of our home being demolished from a news article, the new councilwoman and the management team are excited to put up a business center. I can send a link to the news article where they demolished multiple homes, our home included. Please DM if further info is needed.

The home is or I guess, was beautiful. It's very grand. A multiplex we purchased during COVID. Our whole family's names are under the listing, we were all gonna live there, each apartment is genuinely the size of a full home, with each apartment having large living rooms, and its own private kitchen and bathroom. It was a steal when we purchased it, only for it to be taken from us. We will never find a home like this again. I'm just shocked. I cannot believe something like this is possible, what can be done?
