20 Year Old Out Of State Warrant That Shouldn't Exist

Location: Colorado/Tennessee
To make a long story short, some friends and I from Colorado were caught in a "speed trap" in Somerville Tennessee in 2006. I say "speed trap" because the officers straight face admitted to us that it was a racket to pull over every out of state vehicle figuring that these vehicles were on the way to the Bonnarroo music festival in Manchester and would have "goodies" to find and how much money they make for the town of Somerville each year. We were underage and had alcohol and a small amount of marijuana. Nobody had been drinking or smoking at the time.
Well, we were booked and taken to a cell. I was able to obtain money through western union and got out that evening, my two other friends were in until the following morning. We signed paperwork, paid $750 each and left on our way. We also received some sort of form in the mail to fill out and mail back, something signifying that we had paid and were clear and did not need to appear in court.
Well...it seems my form was lost I guess. Upon attempting to buy a hunting shotgun in around 2017, I was denied. Local police department found nothing, the Sheriff found nothing. I had to contact the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, who told me that I had a failure to appear warrant from 2006 in Fayette county. These forms were all filled out by my friends and I and mailed at the same time, and apparently mine was lost? I'm not quite sure. Again, we all paid and were cleared of needing to appear in court. Somebody mis-filed or completely lost my form I guess.
Nobody on the city or county level in Tennessee seems to want to respond and when they do, it's to say that "this record is too old to find" "that was a different judge, he's retired and or dead" "talk to the city clerk" "talk to the county clerk"...etc. These people are clueless.
As far as lawyers go, they all want upwards of $1600 to "see what they can do". I understand that lawyers don't work for free, but this shouldn't be a problem to begin with. I'm not willing to pay more than double the initial fine for an hour of a lawyers time in court.
That's the situation and I've about had enough of it. Any Ideas?
