[hawaii] I Turned 25 And My Father No Longer Controls My Trust. I Do Not Know Where The Money Went.
Hello everyone. This is an UPDATE to my previous post.

First, thank you to everyone who commented. I have been overwhelmed and have not been able to respond to everyone yet.
I turned 25 on June 22. My dad did not contact me for my birthday. The next day, I had to ask him for money for cat food.
My boyfriend and his dad did make my birthday special. They remembered my favorite cake and hosted a small celebration for me. I am grateful for that.
Turning 25 is important because, based on my understanding of the trust documents and what I was told by the attorney involved in setting up the trust, my father was supposed to automatically relinquish control of my trust when I turned 25.
I contacted that attorney to ask what I should do next. He told me that I need to hire my own attorney and pursue this seriously. I have the trust documents, but I do not have any accounting records, bank statements, or information about where the trust funds have been kept or spent.
My father was supposed to manage this trust for my benefit. My grandmother’s intent was that I would be CARED for and would not have to struggle financially. The trust was supposed to include two properties: the apartment where I live and another property (apartment)that was meant to generate rental income for me. Both located in Waikiki, prime real estate.
Instead, I am currently unemployed, struggling to pay basic expenses, and have maxed out most of my credit cards trying to survive. I have not received the money or financial support I believe I was supposed to receive from the trust.
I tried speaking with my mother, but she does not have access to the financial information and does not feel safe pushing my dad about it.
I also contacted a former property manager who handled a property that my father sold. I asked whether he knew where the proceeds were deposited. He said he did not know. From the sale paperwork, it appears my father had control over where the proceeds went. This worries me because I do not know whether the sale proceeds were ever placed into the trust account.
I am concerned that money intended for my care may have been spent, transferred, or used for something other than the trust. I am also worried about my current apartment. If the utilities, maintenance, or other obligations are not being paid, I am afraid the apartment could be put at risk and eventually forced into a sale.
My dad has been pressuring me to move from Oahu to live with him on the Big Island. I am hesitant because I am worried that leaving my current residence could make it harder to protect my interests in the apartment or trust.
I do not want to make accusations without proof. I need an accounting, records of every trust asset and transaction, confirmation of where the sale proceeds went, and legal advice about how to protect the remaining assets… if any
Has anyone dealt with something like this in Hawaii? What type of attorney should I contact first, and how should someone who is broke with no funds go about this. YES! I know about the free legal aid hotline you can call and I have and the few times I have gotten through to someone they were no help and they only give you like a half hour of their time before they move on. They are only open on Thursday’s and only from 7-10. So ya good luck to you on actually being talked to. Also What records should I request immediately? Besides the accounts where the sale proceeds reside.
Thank you for reading. Any practical advice or referrals would mean a lot.
Aloha.
